In previous blogs I have discussed patent value and the need to determine if (1) is your invention is patentable, and (2) will a resulting patent carry any value. People see Shark Tank and think patents are a huge value because the Sharks seem excited. But as previously discussed most patents do not have any value. Most patent value today comes from the filing of multiple patents and building a patent portfolio, see apple article:
http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2018/09/apple-won-49-patents-today-covering-a-major-one-for-a-folding-iphone-along-with-an-iphone-design-invented-by-late-steve-jobs.html
The everyday inventor cannot afford to file 49 patent applications, 1-3 applications are usually the limit, and so if your invention is patentable, make sure the resulting patent's claims are valuable, and not easily engineered around.
